What is Korean Ground Beef and Rice Bowls

In its simplest form, I would like to introduce my Korean ground beef bowl as a short cut bulgogi bowl. Bulgogi is Korean marinated BBQ beef, famous for its tender meat with balanced sweet and savory flavor.

The main difference between bulgogi and today's dish would be that this beef bowl uses less expensive meat than bulgogi – ground beef vs rib eye. Also the beef bowl doesn't require the marination process as ground beef is already tender and it absorbs flavors real fast.

Because of its nature, ground beef won't be suitable for grilling over the BBQ, but it's perfectly suitable for cooking in a skillet or a wok.

How to Enjoy

One of the highlights this beef and rice bowl offer is that you can serve it with endless arrays of side dishes that are either cooked or raw.

My favorite combinations are sliced cucumbers and kimchi as I always have them in my fridge. If I feel diligent, I sometimes top up with a sunny side up egg.

Also, the dish tastes good without requiring additional sauce as there is enough juice from the meat.

But if you want to add some extra delicious liquid with some kick, you can serve with my famous bibimbap sauce. They go wonderfully together! And, this will make you one of the easiest bibimbap meals around!

How To Make Korean Ground Beef and Rice Bowl

1. Combine the ground beef sauce in a medium size bowl and whisk well. Set aside. If using bibimbap sauce, combine all the sauce in a separate bowl and set aside.

2. In a well heated skillet, cook the ground beef over medium high heat until the meat mostly turns brown (about 3- 4 mins). Stir often while breaking clumps of the meat.

Pan frying ground beef

3. Pour the ground beef sauce over the meat and simmer for 2-3 mins, while stirring occasionally. Add the sesame seeds and green onions. Stir around quickly. Remove from the heat.

4. Serve the cooked beef over a bed of cooked rice. (Optional) Top up with your choice of sides and drizzle over the bibimbap sauce.
